Viking Cruises Chooses Owensboro as a 2027 Port of Call | Mark Calitri

Owensboro just got a national-level vote of confidence.

Viking Cruises announced it will make Owensboro a permanent port of call on new Mississippi and Ohio River itineraries beginning in 2027. That puts our riverfront on the map for a premium traveler who’s already seen the world and is now looking for authentic American places with real culture and a real story. (Spectrum News 1 covered the announcement and included my interview — links below.)

Here’s what matters: when a brand like Viking commits to a destination, it’s not a “nice headline.” It’s proof that what we’re building works.

According to the reporting, Viking guests will dock at English Park and take guided excursions that highlight the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum, Green River Distillery, and our walkable riverfront. That is Owensboro at its best — music, bourbon, and a downtown that feels alive. Viking also noted these new routes include a 15-day New Orleans–to–Louisville voyage and an 8-day Memphis–to–Louisville voyage, both adding western Kentucky stops. Four scheduled shared stop dates for Owensboro and Henderson were listed for 2027: June 12, June 18, Nov. 6, and Nov. 12.

This is exactly the kind of momentum we’ve been working toward at Visit Owensboro — stacking wins that raise our national profile, drive visitor spending, and keep our community moving forward.
