Mark Calitri on Owensboro’s Partnership with the Kentucky Film Office

 As President and CEO of Visit Owensboro, I have seen what happens when tourism, economic development and local business leaders work together. Owensboro and Daviess County have built real momentum, and Kentucky’s growing film industry gives us another chance to turn that teamwork into jobs and business.

Meg Fister, Director of the Kentucky Film Office, recently shared Kentucky’s vision with business leaders at the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce’s Rooster Booster breakfast. Kentucky offers one of the strongest film incentive programs in the country, skilled production crews and a wide range of filming locations located close together.

Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corporation and Visit Owensboro have made film attraction a priority. We are working with the Kentucky Film Office to introduce producers and location scouts to Owensboro-Daviess County and connect them with the locations, workers, hotels, restaurants and local businesses needed to complete a successful production.

That work matters because film production creates business across a community. Crews book hotel rooms, eat in local restaurants, rent vehicles and equipment, buy supplies and hire skilled workers. Each production brings outside spending into Owensboro while putting our community in front of new audiences.

This partnership brings together the strengths of economic development, tourism and the Kentucky Film Office. Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corporation brings business recruitment experience. Visit Owensboro brings destination marketing, hospitality relationships and local knowledge. The Kentucky Film Office brings statewide leadership and industry connections.

  Malibu Jack’s Indoor Theme Park Brings Major Tourism Investment to Owensboro Tourism growth happens when communities continue building experiences that attract visitors and strengthen the local economy.
